Aeration Systems for Large Lakes to Small Ponds
A great need for oxygen exists at the bottom of a eutrophic (nutrient-rich) body of fresh water. Oxygen is available at the surface but fails to reach the lake bottom due to thermal stratification, poor circulation and/or rapid consumption. This is especially so during the summer months, when the water is warm. Under these conditions, oxygen can be consumed faster than it can be replenished, killing aquatic animals in the lower levels that are unable to migrate up.
Without bottom oxygen, a lake or pond's self-purification capability is significantly diminished. Nutrients that are normally held in the sediment get cycled into the water column in a dynamic called "nutrient cycling." These excess nutrients are just as harmful to the lake as those that come from the surrounding watershed, such as fertilizers, animal droppings and septic tank seepage and nutrients recycled from the sediment all increase the need for oxygen.

For shallow lakes:
These systems' compressors come factory wired for either 115V or 230V single-phase. Three-phase models, not wired, are also available. Great Lakes™ systems feature Sweetwater® oilless rotary vane compressors that include a muffler, inlet check valve, control valves, 0-30 psi liquid-filled pressure gauge and pressure relief valve. Our shallow lake systems, which use the ALA4GL diffuser manifold(s), are recommended when the majority of the lake is 4 to 8 feet deep. Tubing is not included; we recommend P200 polyethylene tubing on land and WD1 weighted tubing underwater. Maintenance kits nclude four sacrificial carbon vanes, gasket and two inlet filter elements.
Choose either a 100' (P200S) or 400'(P200) roll of unweighted tubing on land. If used in the lake, the unweighted tubing requires tie wraps (T120R) and three-hole bricks (purchased locally) placed every 5-8' to weigh it down. Self-weighted tubing (WD1R) requires no weights, s it takes much less time to install. Both types of tubing can be connected using couplings (101A) and clamps (use SSA for P200 tubing and SSB for WD1R tubing). One coupling and two clamps per connection will be needed. Cabinets can be located a long distance from the lake shore.
